Currently, I’m staring at my last pomegranate painting – a painting that happens to be taking forever. Usually, each pomegranate painting takes me about 15 hours (give or take), but I’m starting to lose steam and I’m becoming more and more frustrated with each seed. The plan was to finish up this pomegranate series and then start with another fruit or vegetable – peppers, most likely. I went to a farm across the street from my home and took a bunch of photos (below) for my future reference photos. It was a little strange to be walking around a local grocery store with a big camera and I had to keep bending down at awkward angles to get fun close up shots of the produce, but other than a few judgmental looks from shoppers, it was a successful photoshoot outing!

After my trip to the farm, I decided to go ahead and start with the peppers. So, halfway through my first pepper painting and halfway through my last pomegranate, here are my thoughts:
- Peppers are not as fun as pomegranates.
- Since there’s not as much small details (like the seeds of pomegranates), I find it less fun to paint the larger shapes and shadows of the peppers.
- I’m also bored of pomegranates. The seeds are getting to be too much, using the same colors, working with the same fruit, it’s all getting to be too much. Or too little? I’m not really sure – I just know I want a change.
So now I’m trying to finish up this last pomegranate – it’s actually pretty beautiful and probably going to be one of my favorites when I’m done. Time to begin brainstorming for my next subject of interest!!!
